The Blueridge Mountains of Virginia stretching as far as the eye can see, not only home of some of the most beautiful picturesque scenery in the world but where the time of the year depicts the colors of its leaves and attracts visitors from all over the world for its beauty.
One may say that I would like to be laid to rest here and then choose this incredible serene landscape on the side of a mountain as your final resting place?
But surely that’s a choice one should have had the right to choose and not a decision made based on someone else s bad decisions? Right !
The arrival to one such area finds this make shift Cemetery memorializing all 92 victims of Trans World Airlines Flight 514, a Boeing 727-231 jetliner that crashed on the western slope near Mount Weather, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the morning of December 1, 1974.
The Story of TWA Flight 514 originated at Indianapolis, Indiana, and was bound for Washington, D.C., with an intermediate stop at Columbus, Ohio. Upon departing Columbus, the three-engine jetliner carried 85 passengers, a cockpit crew of three, and four flight attendants.
The flight had been scheduled to land at 10:23 a.m. at Washington National Airport, directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., when suddenly air-traffic controllers diverted it to Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, Virginia, about 45 miles northwest of Washington National Airport. The diversion was due to bad weather that included driving rain, fog, and high winds gusting up to 40-50 miles an hour in the region.
On that day the weather was so bad. Visibility was severely limited with heavy cloud cover over the Shenandoah Valley and intermittent snow squalls. During the post crash investigation the Cockpit Voice Recorder revealed that the 1st Officer told the Captain as they flew over the Valley that he thought that they were too low to clear the mountain just before the crash occurred.
Hard Facts, At 11:09 a.m., while flying through a low cloud layer in this turbulent weather on its approach to Dulles, the jetliner failed to clear the fog-shrouded, 1,754-foot-high Mt. Weather. The plane sheared off tree tops, crossed a roadway at fifteen feet, and slammed into a 10-foot-high rocky outcropping. The majority of TWA Flight 514 disintegrated on impact, killing all of its 92 persons on board instantly. The main wreckage cut a swath 60 to 70 yards wide for about a quarter of a mile. The remains of its occupants and burning wreckage were strewn over a wooded area about the size of two football fields.
One persons account of the crash sight, I went out and visited the site of the crash about a month after it occurred. Even though the site had been “cleaned up” by the FAA and others, small debris was still littered everywhere all over the crash site. When I arrived at the site, I was amazed to see a suitcase and miscellaneous pieces of clothing, magazines and small pieces of the interior of the Boeing lodged in the branches of some of the bare trees on the hillside around the crash site.
The afternoon I was there, it was a cold, dismal winter day and I almost cried because of the horrific tragedy that had occurred there. My heart went out the the victims of the crash and their families.
One of the most striking sights was that the tops of the trees were clipped off by the wings and fuselage of the Boeing before the nose of the aircraft struck the rising ground at the crest of the mountain.
A paved road runs along the crest of Mount Weather and several fine country homes literally built on the crest of the mountain. Months later, I did talk to one of the homeowners, and he was amazed that Mount Weather had not been hit long before by an airliner going into Dulles. This was because the airliners would be descending on their Approaches to Dulles.
He told me that on several times, both during both day and night, when the weather was bad he had been in his home and heard the sound of approaching jet engines that got louder and louder until the sound was almost ear shattering and the house vibrated as objects fell off of tables, shelves and desks. On several of those occasions, he was certain that those airliners had only cleared his home and the top of the mountain in the darkness or poor visibility conditions by only the barest of minimums.
A Premonition, A student at Burnside-Ott at Opa Locka Airport in Florida from 1966/67 spoke out regarding one of his classmates that was a TWA Flight Engineer. According to this Flight Engineer there was this one businessman that flew several times a week on TWA flights to and from various cities. He had done this for years. His job required a tremendous amount of airline travel. As it was, this businessman got to know a lot of Stewardesses and even became acquainted some of the Captains and First Officers. As he was always a gentleman and spoke to the Stewardesses with respect, he became one of their “favorite passengers.”
The morning of December 1, 1974 it was his usual practice and he boarded the TWA flight 514. After the aircraft started taxing to the Runway for Take-Off, suddenly this veteran passenger became very agitated, got up out of his seat and DEMANDED to be allowed to leave the airplane. It was all the Stewardess could do to to ask him to sit back down the businessman quieted down after he was told he would be allowed to leave the airplane.
As the plane taxied back to the ramp the passenger was allowed to get off the airplane. Obviously, this was very strange behavior for a veteran TWA passenger and drew a lot of comments and concerns.
The TWA flight 514 took off and then sadly several hours later, the flight crashed with the loss of all on board. Needless to say, the story of the passenger that demanded to be allowed off the doomed airliner became very well known.
The businessman caught the next TWA flight to his destination and continued to be a loyal TWA customer, never causing any more trouble and flying with the airline several times a week on business. Then several years after the first incident with the “Doomed TWA” airliner, the same thing happened again. The TWA airplane was taxing out to the Runway to Take -Off and this man became very agitated again, and again DEMANDED to be allowed to get off of the airplane.
He was allowed to get off and sure enough, that TWA flight was lost in an accident with all on board an hour later. Needless to say, this particular businessman became something of a ” legend” among the TWA flight crews. The businessman did not stop flying TWA, and he continued taking TWA flights as a matter of course on a regular basis.
Several years passed and then one evening, as a TWA airliner was taxing out to the runway for a night flight, this very same businessman again became very agitated DEMANDED to be allowed to get off of the airplane!
When the Stewardess informed the Captain what was going on, the Captain stopped the airplane on the Taxi way, turned the controls over to the First Officer and walked back into the passenger compartment to talk with this man. After a short conversation, the Captain returned to the cockpit.
This time, the pilot, a Senior TWA Captain simply taxied the aircraft back to the passenger terminal and ordered everyone off the airplane. Then the entire Flight Crew walked off the airplane and REFUSED to fly that night. TWA had no choice but to cancel that flight.
That well known “Frequent TWA Businessman Flier” became literally a “living legend” throughout the entire TWA system. In other words, IF this businessman refused to fly, so too would the flight crew!!
Passenger List, A few known people on the flight was a grandfather, CIA or Secret Service. The family and his wife never knew what his occupation was. They just knew he was in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs, Eastern Germany a good bit of time, and the GOLD coast of Africa during their revolution. He brought during the years his family many beautiful treasures that they have to this day.
His granddaughter wrote.. My grandfathers “partner” or agent, died a few years later. We asked him to tell us what it was they did for the government, but he said they were sworn to secrecy, and he took it to his grave with him. We know they worked on wreckage from Roswell, NM, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. My mother lived there as a child. We know while in Africa, they stayed with a tribe of cannibals, and they were all fed goat testicles. It made my grandfather sick, and they flew him and his partner back to the US for medical treatment, and the cannibals ate the rest of the men that were there with him. We know he was in Cuba during the missile crisis. We know that several other top military and government officials were on that plane as well.
Stories like this continued to be told many lives were effected and changed due to TWA 514 and flights demise and its passengers.
An investigation into the crash by the FAA into the tragedy changed the ATC procedures for aircraft making radar assisted Approaches under IFR conditions to airports. Because of the tragedy of TWA 514, many other lives have been saved. A change to the Aviation Safety Reporting System, an early “whistle-blower” type program for pilots and flight crews to report unsafe practices and procedures.
Not Forgotten, It is not always the severity of such an event as the crash of TWA Flight 514 that sparks my attention or draws me to investigate such things, it is however more of a feeling, images begin suddenly to flash in my mind like a movie screen, they pass in front of my eyes while going about my life, sounds, smells and several dreams with numbers and names occur and suddenly here I am researching what it is that demands my attention.
This such thing happened recently to me that instigated a need to investigate further into the TWA Flight 514. Personally I had never heard of the crash before and the story behind it, its location or it persons involved. I was actually not even in the USA until 1989, I was in the UK getting ready to study at my high school when the crash happened.
In 1974, I was 12 years old.
I am 57 years old and now 45 years later one wonders why such an event comes to me suddenly demanding my attention ? Is a mystery and one that I need to solve.
August 19, 2017 6.pm
The Space Between Paranormal group assembles at the location of the crash site of TWA Flight 514.
The weather is warm, bright sunny evening and a beautiful location, no call for rain or thunderstorms in the area, the weather is perfect for such an investigation.
On driving up to the site images flashed through my mind of a women and a child, one was trying to find the other, smoke or mist surrounded them both and the feeling of anxiety came over me, my heart began to beat faster and my head began to thump.
Of course these feeling and images normally start out for me when I anticipate an investigation and i begin to psychically tap into the energy surrounding the events, people involved ect, but this subject was even more intense, given the weeks leading up to our investigation, a feeling of lost, hopelessness surrounding the images in my head constantly, someone in my head told me to make it light, make it bright, remember me.
Before the scheduled meeting with the team I took a quick detour up to the site in question to mediate a few minutes and tap into what ever it was calling me there.
I had never been to the location before, knew nothing of its structure and knew nothing of its surroundings, and was pleasantly surprised at the beauty that the area held, the extremely well appointed homes with their stunning views dotted the road side, with their long driveways with gated entrances, their lime stoned walls and manicured gardens. Its a beautiful location but somethings a miss I felt, and I began to wonder why there existed a huge amount of FOR SALE signs dotted themselves along the road side as I was driving up and I began to wonder why anyone would wish to move from such a place?
When I finally approached the location I parked and left my vehicle for a few minutes, the area was silent, no birds , no movement, no wind, I remember thinking how odd the sound of silence was in such a beautiful heavily wooded location, on the side of a mountain with clearly a high elevation, everything was so green and beautiful but silent?
After driving back to meet up with the team at our arranged meeting location we all drove to the area in question.
Arrival at location 7.30PM
The only identifying makers to such a tragedy along the road side are a row of 4 small American flags, blink and one would miss them, a small handmade cross sitting to the back of some rock formation sat. For those that have perished in such an event an immediately thought crossed my mind, YES sadly forgotten.
Of course the victims are not forgotten in the families minds I guarantee it, each placing their loved one in a special commemorative location across the USA for them all to visit and remember, but for the victims of such an event the location where it actually happened and the place they last knew life, I am deeply saddened to see the lack of acknowledgement. This was not just an event that changed aviation safety history as we know it today but for that change, sadly 92 people lost their lives for it.
I am not sure if this was the decision made by the State of VA, the owners of the property surrounding the site or the Mount Weather facility itself that sits so close to the area?
On a closer investigation of the area, sitting upon the top of a small area of the rock formation some small pieces of evidence lay. Broken rusted pieces of the aircraft fuselage, pieces of metal and the metal from the aircraft seats with color, screws and bolts still attached, all laid to rest in what seems to be a small ceremonial circle area.
All that’s left of evidence of the crash and loss of so many lives, evidence of drilling holes along the top of the rock to either attempt to gather evidence or blast the rock apart? who knows?
Our investigation began and still in daylight , with EVP and recorders running, some also with camera equipment. Our first; capture of EVPs began immediately, it seems that some have been waiting for us.
What follows is an account of the EVP words captured during our investigation as well as documented photography.
Johnny, Jake, Jenna, Robert, crash, air, chair, ramp, burn, matter, sign , non, coat, 9. rocket, nana, government , master, used, iron , begin, tesla, cook, club, dug, well, once , pray, steamy, Robert, Moss, blaze, troop, maximum, Jack, little, hell, news, scruple, not, stay, had, vapor, justice, kept, homicide, printed, Pam, disembody, float, yourself, Eric, opposite, case, desolate, helpless, opposite.
The names Wendy and Otty were also made known to us via one of our members that accompanied the team, stating that Wendy was looking for Otty.
It is clear that our investigation discovered some activity, capture of both EVP and photography indicate clearly that some of those lost in this horrific event in 1974 have not moved on or are in a constant state of searching for their loved ones and wishing to get a message across.
Some loud booming sounds were witnessed by all those in the team from the woods surrounding us, and one might wonder if this was residual energy left behind?
Also the distinct smell of kerosine was smelt when walking past the commemorative rock area ? A smell that I would have thought would have disappeared after 45 plus years?
The following is a list of those lost, some where unidentified sadly at the time as a list of passengers where not always necessarily or required recording in 1974.
The Message, One will notice that the connection between the EVP recorded names and that of the passenger list are incredibly profound, some names came through several times repeating themselves as if to have themselves recorded, acknowledged and remembered.
It is my firm belief that residual energy exists and the space between holds many messages, the spirits or souls of those passed how ever you wish to put it still remain at the crash site of TWA Flight 514 and wished very much to be known and have their messages relayed.
To those that may eventually fall upon this documentation and read this.
IF you are a family member of those involved and lost on December 1, 1974 , your dearly departed are wishing to pass on a message of validation to those of you out there that lost someone and to let you know that they have not forgotten you. In spirit they remember you and in spirit they still wish to communicate.
To All those lost souls of Flight TWA 514
Thank you to you all, to those listed and those not listed, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to hear you, thank you for your messages and providing your energy to allow us to piece together some of your story, your lives were not lost in vain and we will remember you and thank you for making the airways a safer place.
To All those left behind, to those that have lost family, friends, loved ones in this tragic event and other such tragedies
Because the ones watching you are the ones looking out for you.
